scurt istoric

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Faculty of General Medicine was established in November 1945 by M. Moghiliov, Doctor Habilitated, professor, representative of Leningrad School of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

From 1948 to 1971, the Chair was headed by university professor A. Cocerginschi.

Professor A. Cocerginschi educated a pleiad of doctors-practitioners and scientific workers, including professors Gh. Paladi, A. Slepâh, V. Linchevici, Gh. Luţenco, E. Gladun and Associate Professors M. Ştemberg, Gh. Marcu.

Since 1971, professor Gh. Paladi, a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, has taken over as head of the Department.

In 1986, in accordance with the decision of the Scientific Council of the University and Order of the Ministry of Health of the MSSR No. 80-6 of 25.06.1986, the Department was restructured into three distinct departments: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 (head of department - academician Gh. Paladi), Department of obstetrics and gynecology of the Faculty of Pediatrics, later Department No. 2 (head of department – university professor Marin Rotaru) and Department of obstetrics and gynecology No. 3 (head of department - Associate Professor Petru Roşca).

To enhance the educational process and optimize the costs, the number of students admitted in 1999-2000 in the first year and the number of groups and academic hours were reduced and the three departments of obstetrics and gynecology were merged. Thus, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established, led by university professor Valentin Friptu.

As the obstetrics and gynecology branch has an important role in the postgraduate training of future family doctors through residency, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Faculty of Continuing Education in Medicine and Pharmacy was founded on September 1, 2004. It was led by Olga Cernetchi, Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences, university professor.

The clinical bases of the Department are: Municipal Clinical Hospital No.1 public health institution (Obstetrics Unit No. 1 and No. 2, Pathology of Pregnant Women, Aseptic Gynecology No. 1 and No. 2, Pregnancy Therapy Unit No. 3, Septic Gynecology), Municipal Maternity hospital No. 2 public health institution, Arhanghelul Mihail Hospital, Sfanta Treime Hospital, and Emergency Hospital.
